Christmas Letter

                                                                 Christmas 2015

We look back at all that has happened this past year, and we stand in awe of God’s faithfulness, providence, and provision.

A year ago we were preparing to move to East Africa with one agency and those plans suddenly fell apart. Today we know that this was God’s providence in leading us to Pioneers and the ministry opportunity we now have available. While our departure is a few months later than we originally planned, it is amazing how quickly everything has come together from the time we had our first conversation with Pioneers last March until now as we’ve just completed our pre-field training. Lord willing, we will have our support raised and leave for our new home in May 2016.

We made our last short-term trip to East Africa in February and March of this year. Dan conducted agricultural training in several villages and taught a course in Godly Governance at the local university. Teresa shared Bible lessons with the ladies in the village and trained her friend Mary how to do Simply the Story oral Bible studies. It was during this visit that we also learned of the incredible opportunity to reopen the village school as a Christian boarding school.

The gift of the local primary and secondary school compounds and our new partnership with Set Free Ministries is part of God’s amazing  provision this year. Here is a photo of the secondary school compound which consists of about 20 acres, 8 buildings, a well and a water tower. The primary school has 3 more buildings.

Here is a brief update on our brood: Kenny and Amanda announced that Elijah will have a new little sister. We expect baby Olivia to arrive in January. Krista and Jay moved their whole crew (Gina, Eddie, Lizzie and Peter) to Oklahoma where Jay continues to serve and is now teaching. Hannah married Ian—one of the highlights of the year. Courtney got another promotion at her job, which keeps her very busy. Kaitlin got engaged to Nick and we look forward to officially welcoming him into the fold next fall. Kylie has taken a break from her studies and is kept busy chasing a very active Amos around. Joshua continues in the engineering program at Ferris State. Cait got her first job and is now a high school junior.

Christmas letters traditionally review the past year, but we have some pretty exciting things in the upcoming year as well. In addition to moving to Africa, a new grandbaby arriving, and another wedding, we will also have two new college graduates this spring. Kaitlin will graduate from Michigan State and Teresa will graduate (finally!) from Kuyper College.

Thank you for taking the time to read about how we’ve been blessed this past year. It is an honor to share our journey with you.

Merry Christmas!
from Dan & Teresa Janzen
